Spotlight

Diversity and inclusion spotlight: cultural diversity

Board culture diversity is one ESG metric covered in the Refinitiv ESG database. The data point is defined as the percentage of board members that have a cultural background different from the location of the corporate headquarters.

When analyzing a starting universe of 8,789 companies reporting on board cultural diversity between 2016 and 2020, we find that globally the cultural diversity of board members has increased, but only slightly.

EMEA leads the way with the most culturally diverse boards.
