About Lauren

Lauren Young is a Money Editor, where she oversees personal finance coverage. She joined us in April 2010. Previously, she served as Personal Business Editor and Intern Coordinator at BusinessWeek; Senior Writer, Staff Writer, and Staff Reporter at SmartMoney Magazine; Reporter at Dow Jones Newswires; Copywriter at McCann Erickson-Budapest; and Editorial Assistant at National Parks & Conservation Association.

Young hosts a FacebookLive series on personal finance topics and has been a frequent ‘talking head’ on CNN, NPR, Comcast, NBC and other media outlets. She won an ICI Excellence in Personal Finance Journalism Award for a series of video interviews with mutual fund managers that ran on the website.

Young is our representative on the Deadline Club board and advises the 29 Post, a (profitable!) newspaper published by New York City elementary school students. She also serves on the boards of Penn State University’s Schreyers Honors College and Penn State Hillel. Young is the Past President of Medill Club of Greater New York.

 

A Philadelphia native, Young worked for her elementary school, middle school, high school and college newspapers. She holds a BA degree in English from Pennsylvania State University, where she was the Winner of Outstanding Young Alumni Award. She also holds an MSJ degree from Medill School of Journalism — Northwestern University, which awarded her with an alumni service award.
